Autumn is in full swing and winter will be here before we know it.
Autumn is in full swing and winter will be here before we know it. While you’re busy whipping your home into shape – tuning up the furnace, checking the insulation, bringing out the storm windows, and cleaning the ducts – don’t forget to prepare your yard, too.
If you get frost, it’s important to put your garden “to bed.” A thorough fall cleanup means a healthy, vital garden and lawn next spring!
So what is important in a final clean up?
1-The lawn should be mowed shorter than normal (around 3 inches) to prevent fungus problems.
2-Dead wood or cross branches should be pruned to eliminate the chance of pest issues.
3-Remove all leaves, branches, twigs and debris from lawn and planting beds.
4-Fall fertilizer high in natural phosphorus should be applied to promote healthy turf growth in the spring.
Remember: Putting in the time or money for a proper fall clean-up will not only pay off come spring with a beautiful and healthy yard but will also have things looking great for those Christmas lights and decorations.
